Couple of enlightenment questions, please help?

Alright so I really don't know that much about the enlightenment-i kinda get the philosophy (i know it was the movement of the 18th century that emphasized the use of reason to scrutinize previously accepted doctrines and traditions and that brought about many humanitarian reforms) but what i'm having trouble on is this: what were the limits? in what areas of life were there limits to freedom? and i am supposed to explain when some of those limits were repealed......i dont know even where to look
